Logistics School successfully co-held LISS2022 and IEIS2022 international academic annual conferences

From July 21 to 23, 2022, approved by the Ministry of Education, hosted by the International Research Center for Information Management Theory and Technology of Beijing Jiaotong University (ICIR), the National Institute of Economic Security of Beijing Jiaotong University (NAES), the School of Economics and Management of Beijing Jiaotong University and Beijing Wuzi University, and organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University of Reading, the 12th International Annual Conference on Logistics, Informatization and Service Science (LISS2022) and The 9th International Conference on Industrial Economic Systems and Industrial Safety Engineering (IEIS2022) was successfully held.

The conference, originally planned to be held at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was held by online video conference due to the pandemic. The conference was supported by IEEE SMC Logistics Informatization and Industrial Security System Professional Committee, Wang Kuancheng Education Foundation, CEIBS Doctoral School of Sustainable Engineering, Beijing Logistics Informatization Research Base, Beijing Key Laboratory of Logistics Management and Technology, and Beijing Industrial Security Research Base.

The opening ceremony of the conference was held on July 21 at 8 p.m. Beijing time via online video conference. Professor Guan Zhongliang, one of the general chairmen of the conference and vice president of Beijing Jiaotong University, attended the opening ceremony. At the opening ceremony, Professor Guan Zhongliang, on behalf of the organizer, welcomed the guests, experts and scholars, introduced the history and vision of Beijing Jiaotong University, and wished the conference a complete success.

Professor He Mingke, former vice president of Beijing Wuzi University, and Professor Fu Xiaowen of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University introduced the development, construction and talent training of related disciplines of Beijing Wuzi University and Hong Kong Polytechnic University to the participating experts and scholars.

Professor Zhang Runtong, ICIR, one of the general chairs of the conference, reported on the background and organization of the two meetings on behalf of the organizing committee. The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Professor Hua Guowei, Executive Director of ICIR and the National Institute of Economic Security.

The conference invited 8 famous scholars in logistics, informatization, service science and industrial safety to give keynote speeches. Professor Suzanne de Treville, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Operations Management and professor of the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, gave a report entitled "Valuing Supply-Chain Responsiveness and Resilience", proposing to consider the value of "responsiveness" and "resilience" in cost-driven supply chain decisions. Professor Roel Leus of the University of Leuven in Belgium gave a report entitled "A Flow-based Formulation for Parallel Machine Scheduling Using Decision Diagrams", and proposed a stream-based scheduling model for the problem of multi-machine parallel scheduling with objective function and no idle time. Professor Robin Qiu of Pennsylvania State University gave a report entitled "Digital Transformation: Case Studies", discussing the digital cases in two scenarios: building energy efficiency and health communication. Professor Aboul Ella Hassanein of Cairo University, Egypt, gave a lecture entitled "Digital Twinning and Artificial Intelligence: Recent Trends and Applications", discussing the application and technical challenges of digital twins in related fields. Professor Chen Jian of Tsinghua University gave a report entitled "Green Packaging and Communication: The Implications of Bring-Your-Own-Container", which put forward how enterprises can scientifically make green packaging and communication decisions under the trend of green consumption. Professor Sabah Mohammed of Lakehead University in Canada gave a report entitled "Translational Informatics for Interoperability and Connectivity: A Healthcare Case Study", which elaborated on the development status and trend of translational medical informatics and its application from the perspective of information technology. Professor Francisco Saldanha da Gama of the University of Lisbon, Portugal, gave a report entitled "Planning for Facility Collaboration in Logistics Network Design", and proposed a mixed integer programming model that considers both production and distribution systems in logistics network design. Professor Martin Dresner of the University of Maryland gave a lecture entitled "Airline Strategies During the Pandemic: What Worked?" The report discusses airlines' operational strategies to increase revenue, reduce costs and improve safety during the pandemic.

From July 21 to 22, the conference also conducted eight group papers in the form of online video conference. Nearly 200 scholars from 14 countries and regions around the world registered and participated in LISS2022 and IEIS2022 academic conferences online. During the same period, more than 130 young scholars from 28 universities from 8 countries and regions participated in the "7th China-Europe Summer School of Logistics, Informatization, Management and Service Sciences", and participated in the two international academic conferences through online participation and offline discussions. Although affected by the epidemic, the theme report of this conference and the presentation and exchange of conference papers in related fields have aroused strong interest and warm response from the participating scholars, and domestic and foreign academic organizations and well-known universities and well-known scholars have congratulated them in different forms. Springer Nature will continue to support, publish and promote the proceedings of both conferences, which will be submitted to the CPCI-S and EI databases.
