Logistics School Held 2023 Sino Japan Logistics Forum

On September 2, 2023, the School of Logistics at Beijing Wuzi University adopted an online live streaming interactive mode and successfully held the 2023 China-Japan Logistics Forum exchange event, aiming to better promote academic research in the field of logistics and supply chain between China and Japan and build a cooperative information exchange platform. This forum specially invites Mr. Zhao Jingyan, Senior Advisor of East Asia Headquarters of NX International Logistics (China) Co., Ltd.  Professor Yuji Yano, Professor Yuki Misui, Professor Katsuhiko Hayashi of Circulation and Logistics System mayor in the University of Circulation Economics of Japan, Associate Professor Chang Yimei of the School of Logistics at Beijing Wuzi University, and Ms. Song Wei, Deputy General Manager of Beijing Wuhuan Shuntong Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd., as online guests. Some brilliant and rigorous academic speech was given on the themes of e-commerce logistics, rail water intermodal port loading and unloading operations, supply and demand constraints, and sustainable logistics during the epidemic period.

At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Guo Lin, Director of the Office of Foreign Exchange and Cooperation, introduced the agenda of the forum to everyone and led everyone through a video to review the cooperation process between our school,  University of Circulation and Economics in Japan, and NX International Logistics (China) Co., Ltd. Since 2010, Beijing Wuzi University has maintained close cooperation and exchange relationships with University of Circulation Economics in Japan and NX International Logistics Company. Every year, scholars and business elites from Japan participate in the China-Japan Logistics Forum, giving speeches on current hot topics, bringing valuable new perspectives and ideas to teachers and students. Our school also collaborates with NX International Logistics Company to conduct daily classes and award the "NX Scholarship" to jointly cultivate outstanding logistics industry talents.

First of all, Mr. Zhao Jingyan, Senior Advisor of East Asia Headquarters of NX International Logistics (China) Co., Ltd, proposed the main variables that affect the development of international logistics, such as high global inflation, Russia-Ukraine conflict, trade protectionism, etc. Then, from the four aspects of land transportation, aviation, railway, and sea transportation, with the help of examples such as JSQ commodity vehicles, New Western Land-sea Corridor, and the China-Laos Express, the development of the logistics industry and the logistics challenges we still face in the context of global economic recession are analyzed. Finally, it is pointed out that the fluctuations and chaos of the global supply chain system are a new normal.

The second guest, Professor Yuji Yano, of Circulation and Logistics System mayor in the University of Circulation Economics of Japan, analyzed the logistics crisis that has attracted widespread attention in Japanese society with the topic of "Supply and demand constraints and their significance for sustainable logistics". He pointed out that the logistics crisis is mainly reflected in insufficient supply (such as a severe shortage of large truck drivers) and the poor working environment and unreasonable working hours of logistics practitioners. Logistics reform can not only promote the development of enterprises, but also enhance the well-being of logistics practitioners.

Professor Katsuhiko Hayashi of Circulation and Logistics System mayor in the University of Circulation Economics of Japan. The theme of his speech is "The Efforts of Japanese E-commerce Logistics during the Epidemic". He pointed out that during the pandemic, the number of consumers using online shopping has sharply increased. Online store operators have rapidly improved their large-scale commodification facilities and decentralized distribution bases, built a flexible EC logistics system, and gradually developed a platform self delivery model.

Professor Yuki Misui of Circulation and Logistics System mayor in the University of Circulation Economics of Japan takes "The Use of Expressway Rest Areas and the Cognition of Logistics Operators on Congestion Issues" as the topic, this article introduces the overview and utilization methods of Japanese highway rest facilities (SA, PA), and deeply discusses whether Japanese highway rest facilities should be charged and how to optimize their development by analyzing the social questionnaire survey conducted in the early stage.

Ms. Song Wei, Deputy General Manager of Beijing Wuhuan Shuntong Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd., gave a speech on the "New Model of Cold Chain Logistics Development under High Quality Development". Ms. Song Wei proposed that the adjustment and upgrading of the cold chain logistics industry structure is accelerating, and the integration of supply chain resources and business collaboration of group enterprises is the trend. Subsequently, the development process of Wuhuan Shuntong Enterprise and its "one system", "three platforms", "five first-class", "six excellent intelligence", and "seven management" were introduced.

Associate Professor Chang Yimei, majoring in Supply Chain Management at the School of Logistics at Beijing Wuzi University, with her research on collaborative scheduling of loading and unloading operations at iron-water intermodal ports, specifically introduced the five parts of the rail-water joint container port and the types of equipment used in the loading and unloading process and operations. Afterwards, Professor Chang gave a detailed introduction to the integrated scheduling model and solution algorithms and experiments for GC, IT, and YC. Finally, she compared the relationship between the main layer and the sub layer of the algorithm experiments.

This forum introduced the current development status, difficulties, pain points, and response measures of the supply chain logistics industry in China, Japan, and even the world in the post-pandemic era to teachers and students. It further strengthened the exchange and cooperation in the research and learning fields of logistics between China and Japan, and promoted the logistics professional talent training model of our school as a "distinctive and high-level applied university". It also promoted the cooperation and development of logistics between China and Japan in multiple fields and perspectives, The establishment of an innovative "international industry university research" cooperation model in the field of logistics has provided a solid foundation for cultivating international logistics talents.
